I had a collection lawyer win a case against me in small claims.
My divorce settlement 6y ago left me with a good few debts to widle down, and I did.
One such debt stated that i bring it to $2,029 which i brought below before contacting my ex's lawyer and letting her know my obligations had been filled.
I was reassured the bill was no loger due and that my civil contemp filing was absurd.
Final judgement was made against me a day before my case was to be heard in a phone call from the lawyer to the court that was documented as a plea for reasonable fees.
I filed a motion for retrial due to my non-presence and was denied.
I filed an appeal and am seeking help in writing my brief. I have filed another civil contempt against the ex, but she is deadbeat and not to be found.
The court seems to make no effort to enforce its divorce decision and I'm starting to believe I'm getting ready to have to pay this zombie debt.
I am trying to find affordable legal counsel
or consultation.
We had no children but i do now and any extra financial burden of $4000+ surely would hurt.
What are my chances of pursuing and winning this case should I be allowed to get it to retrial and what are the chances of these guys actually getting to garnish my salary?
