Unfortunately, JK is right. Divorce does not sever your legal obligations for a debt if the account was joint.

You need legal representation from a licensed attorney. Appeals are too difficult for most people to handle pro se, and some courts don't allow appeals without legal representation because of the complexities of appellate law.

Ultimately, you may have to pay this debt and then sue your ex-spouse for breach of your settlement agreement. The agreement was between you, her and the domestic court, not your creditors. Your creditors had no say in that process.

I know it doesn't seem fair, but many of us (including myself) have been caught in a similar situation. Hindsight is 20/20, but to avoid this you must take pay off all joint financial obligations, notify your creditors of the situation, and CLOSE THOSE ACCOUNTS as a condition of signing off the settlement agreement. Like me, you are trying to close the barn door after the cows got out.
