The way you handle household/MCM depends on whether or not you are within the SOL. That makes a BIG difference. If you last paid household in 2000, then you are either passed or close to the SOL. We never recommend doing anything with an account that is within SOL. MCM paid pennies on the dollar for this account. Chances are very good that you do not legally owe them anything. Paying a CA does not improve your FICO score. Actually, it seals the negative for a longer period of time. Try to remember WHEN you last paid household. If it was 4 years ago, then you are passed the SOL.
