I never put up with any of that crap, Lurker. I used a PC program and a voice modem to screen my calls. It was *very* *very* effective, particularly when I replaced the sound file that told the blocked caller that "This call has been blocked" with a standard "this number is no longer in service" message. Blocked calls would be intercepted on the first ring.

Check the app out at this website (This is not an advertisement, but the solution that I personally used and found effective): http://www.talkingcallerid.com

I was able to choose blocking by name or by specific or partial phone number (in other words, I could type in "(888) 222-22xx" and block ALL calls that started with that series. I could even tell it to send certain numbers to voicemail and ignore others (so that I had an opportunity to pick up or let my answering machine pick up if I wanted).

The peace it gave me was well worth the small price and efforts to set it up to my liking. I refuse to allow anyone to violate the sanctity of my home.
