Make every conscientious effort to negotiate with Original Creditors. After charge-off, account is sold to collection pig-plop lowlives. There is no reason, ever, to negotiate with, much less pay money to, a third-party debt collector. None.
They are thugs who bought the account for a penny on the dollar. Would you pay a dollar for something worth one penny? So why pay these bums? Pay them, they may yet sue. Like feeding heroin to a vicous, drooling, glassy-eyed, junkie. They're never satisfied.
Contribute to an animal charity or other worthy cause. There is no honor in paying collectors. Nothing you pay reimburses the Original Creditor. Collectors 'invest' ill-gotten gains in scurvy activities, regularly reported in the newspaper. Money laundering, drugs, 'overseas intrigue', to name a few. Oh, plus running white slavery rackets. Idn't dat right, Hubris? Sorry, I digress.
No, pay them nothing. Ever. Better to swallow silver dollars than pay a penny to predatory scumbag bullies. They take pleasure in abusing elderly, disabled, widows into foregoing their medication money. Nice crowd.

Abusively,
