My advice would be to contact an attorney. Sounds like there is a significant amount of money involved, and if you are not careful, the credit hounds will smell it and be hot on your trail.
There are laws specific to every state, especially when there is a deceased spouse. Get some legal advice. www.naca.net Good Luck. As far as I can tell, the life insurance is exempt from judgement since bk exemptions and judgements are the same.
