You say you have been "paying them"?
Who EXACTLY have you been paying?
When was the last time that you paid the ORIGINAL CREDITOR directly on the account WHILE IT WAS STILL ACTIVE.

This means you could USE the account to make additional charges, that it hadn't been "frozen" that there were no late charges or past due or over limit fees added,and that it was current and up to date.
