Creditors do not inform you when an accunt is sold or assigned for collection. So, if you have bad credit with anybody, it is not a good idea to even acknowledge their letter if the account is within SOL. This could be any account that has been charged off. The letter does or does NOT mention a creditor or account number? YOUR BEST BET IS TO IGNORE THESE PEOPLE. Don't talk to them on the phone, watch caller ID, let the machine pick up......whatever works for you. There is a lot of psychology in debt collection. CAs lie and threaten, it is the way they do business. The phone is their tool, take it away from them. Sending a validation letter now shows them that you care, and they will harass you to death. I would say they probably do have one of your accounts. Eventually, they will show up on your credit report.
