I am trying to buy a house and finally get round to settling a debt that wasnt even mine in the first place (long story), but nevertyhe less I am going to take it in the shorts. Of course they checked my recent credit report and see that i am trying for a house and closed the vice on me. I ended up settling for $1750 on a $5500 debt. I think I screwed myself. I made the offer to the CA for $1750 assuming i would get a $0 balance statment. Instead, i get this letter that says "settled in full" but still shows a current balance of $3750. What the %*&#. what now? I need my credit report to show $0. its worth 1.25 points on my interest rate. grumble
