If you never got the summons, you won't get notice of the judgment. Your first notice may be from your bank or your employer because they've received a writ of garnishment from the court.

It's too late to work it out with the CA if there's a judgment. The judgment has the full power of the court behind it. If you didn't get a summons, you need to get an attorney to help you vacate the judgment for lack of notice. Otherwise, you're probably stuck with paying the full amount of the judgment. It's also possible that you may be able to convince the court to allow you to make installment payments. But for that you might also want to contact an attorney so that a motion can be filed in the case for a hearing.
