That does not sound like a summons. You need to check with the local courthouse and see if a law suit has been filed against you. Just because the guy had a uniform does not mean he was the sheriff. I also had an encounter with a "sherrif" badge said sheriff. But the color of the uniform was wrong for where I live. This sounds more like a collection scam, and they have violated FDCPA. If it has the mini miranda, it is just that an attempt to collect a debt. They are trying to have you tell them what assets you have. I also got something very official looking in the mail......but it was really just a collection effort. Be Careful. You do not want to ignore a real law suit, but you need to MAKE SURE this is a legal paper. Doesn't sound like it.
