I sent my own version of the cease and desist letter primarily cause these CAs were contacting not just myself but my family members. In the letter I disputed the charges (mainly the interest, penalities, etc). In most cases I never heard from the CA again however sometimes the file was transferred to another CA and the cycle started over again. If I should contact the credit bureaus 31 days after CA receipt, to check if a trade line is on the report am I making a bigger mess? Only twice after receiving a cease & desist letter have I ever received anything back and both times all I got was copies of the statements issued after my last payment. None of the stuff I specifically requested was included so I'd write back and tell them that they did not comply and then I'd hear nothing again until the file was given to another CA. I want to avoid court if possible but if I can contact the credit bureaus and end this mess early I want to do so.
