Just because they made excuses is no sign that they were lame. Some people get called so much and are so disturbed by collection tactics they don't know what to say and they make up something. Actually, the person you called does not have to contract with you and listen to the collection speil. They could tell you nicely not to contact them again by phone and to send all communications to them of the unsubstantiated purported debt by U. S. Mail. BTW - if you employ an Attorney to possibly try to sue he is also a 3rd party to the debt and would also have to validate the unsubstantiated alleged claim. Remember, that validation must come in first person with someone that has first hand knowledge of the alleged debt. This would also need to be signed IAW 28 U.S.C. Section 1746. Any statement the Attorney purports to make in court would be objected to as hearsay.
