Hospital Bill

I have a hospital bill that I am disputing. They say I owe them money, I say the bill is paid in full. And so far, I have refused to pay any more because I don't feel that I owe it. I can't talk sense into them over the phone. They have ignored my letters. And today, I get a notice in the mail that says they have turned it over to a collection agency and sent it to the credit bureau. Do I have any recourse here? I don't think the WhyChat HIPAA letter applies in this situation since they show a balance on their records. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks!
