I was just discharged from a chapter 7. After having the experience, the only way I would do it myself is if I had plenty of time, like 5 or 6 months, to study and learn before I filed. There are so many trip-ups that could get your case dismissed, or get certain debts not discharged, etc. Get the book someone mentioned, go to the website below and read and absorb every post, go to a 341 meeting in your area and listen to what the Trustee is asking. 99% of them are set up like a meeting room at a hotel so you can go and observe. Go to the bankruptcy court site in your district and read the local rules and find your state's exemptions. Exemptions listed on many sites that list all states aren't always updated and may be erroneous. If you think you'd be okay on your own after doing all this, then I'd say go for it. And good luck!
