Nope, the original creditor is the original creditor. That can't change. Once the OC sold the debt, you can not settle with them. They don't own it anymore. if this is within SOL, I would suggest that you ignore them. Don't talk to them. Protect your assets. When was the last time you paid the original creditor before the account became deliquent.
