Hi all,
I used to have a Fleet Visa card which expired about two months ago. I had zero balance on the card. In fact, I hardly ever used the card for two years. Last month, I received a letter from the law office of larry roach. The letter says "This office has been retained to collect the debt owed by you to the CACV of Colorado, LLC". The original creditor is shown as the Fleet Bank and the debt is supposed to be around $400. The letter also says "If you notify us in writing that the debt or any portion thereof is disputed, we will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgement against you... Please call our office immediately."
I was kind of taken by surprise since I did not have any balance on my card. I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed. Should I just ignore the letter or should I call the law office to figure out what is going on? What legal authority do they have?
Thanks a lot!
