Well, the way I see it, they pressured you into a check by phone. They are simply pressuring you again. If they have your banking info, I would close the account and open a new one. Try to get a free consult with a consumer attorney and just MAKE SURE that they are spouting bullcrap. There is no law against stopping payment on a check. That is just CA crap. Hopefully one of the pros can be a little more positive. I'm about 99% sure that they are simply trying to scare you, but I would like to hear it from a pro.
