I have never received a 1099c

My credit cards were charged off 3 and 4 yrs ago.... almost all are with CA's. I have not received a 1099c from any of the OC's .... Is a charge off a forgiven debt if sold to a CA? When the CA's finally give up will they send an 1099c? If I receive a 1099c does that mean I will never be bothered again and the debt is totally forgiven...I just have to pay taxes on it? sorry to be so stupid...Please if someone can give me a very simple explanation...Thanks!
