If they have a judgement against you, they can compell you via interrogatories to give them your banking info. They would not have access to the amount of money in your account. Bad debt buyers are nasty. Plain and simple. They will take the chance that they can get a paycheck or two. They don't care if your mortgage check bounces, and frankly it is not their problem, it is your problem if something like that happens. It's a mess to clean up. The bank will charge your account with not only overdraft fees but also fees for everything that is involved when a bank account is seized. If you can't pay all of these charges, and if they hit you at the right time, it can be a major disaster. Just not worth the risk. Also, if you have ever paid the original creditor, or them with your current checking account, they already have your banking info. I have also heard of them sending seize orders to all the banks within a 50 mile radius. Their business is to find and collect money.
