Now that you've made a payment to them, the statute of limitations begins from the date of your last payment. If you have an uneasy feeling, you may be right. Put a stop pay on the check and send them a Cease and Desist letter via Certified Mail. Do a Google search under "Bud Hibbs Cease and Desist" and plug in your own information into the letter and send Certified mail return receipt. You will not legally be contacted by this firm, and should you be, I would then file a complaint with your local Ethics committee against this firm.
Additionally, since you are in Fla, that is considered a "debtors state" and you cannot have your wages garnished nor any liens put on any personal property, so a judgment is really kind of pointless anyway.
