Being a skiptracer for collection attorneys for over 15 years, I can tell you exactly how your phone # was obtained. The person they were looking for lived at your address previously. They input your address into one of several different computer software packages they subscribe to, or other free one's on the internet, i.e. Searchbug.com, and did a reverse search by address. They came up with your name and phone #, and tried pot luck that you were possibly a relative that they used to live with or the individual was a female and was now married and your last name may have been the new married name. Whatever the case, I'm sure when they call if you pick up the phone, they will ask you if you know them or how to get in touch with them. Once you tell them it is a wrong #, they will take your # out of their system. What you need to understand is this whole profession is based upon commission. They will try anything in order to get a bill paid and until they know they are barking up the wrong tree, they will continue to try to make contact, because that is the last and best information they had to go on.
