Negotiating with OC

I've been reading these boards for a while and I've seen very little about how to pay off an old debt by negotiating with the OC. Has anyone had successful or unsuccessful experiences with this? I have several charged off CC from when I was a student. Soon I will be able to pay them off in a lump sum, but needless to say I don't want to pay the CAs that currently have the accounts. It's a sticky situation because the OCs have already written off and sold the debts. What's the best way to approach this? Who do you deal with at the CC companies? Should I hire a lawyer to negotiate for me? Can you get the OC to change your account as Paid as Agreed with your CR?

Thanks, Frank
