If you ignore they will get a judgment. It is a lot harder to vacate a judgment and it is an expensive and time consuming process. In the meantime while the judgment is being disputed and there is a trial. the judgment creditor can move to have your bank account freezed or your other assets freezed pending the outcome of the trial. In other words, it can be very expensive and very inconvenient for you.
