In response to a previous thread... I had 3 credit cards charged off within the last 2 years. Last payments were made also within 1-3 years ago. 1 card opened in VA, the others in TX. I live in TX now. I believe the SOL in TX in 4 years. I definitely DO want to pay off these debts, just not to the collection agencies. My question was how can I go around the CA and deal directly with the OC, and have them reflect my CR as being Paid as Agreed rather than Paid Charge Off? I don't believe CA has the authority to do this, only OC. Does anyone have experience with this? It is probably not done that often. I realize I could wait out the SOL and the 7 year CR limit, but that's a long time. Personally I believe if you have the means to pay you should pay, but only if it helps me as well. If it is totally not within your means to pay, then the law should protect you to some extent. I don't think we should use the law as a shield to not ever pay. Plus I would like to get back in the real world and be able to use credit again!
