CAs bought this account for pennies on the dollar. They will threaten to sue, or send it to legal if you talk to them. Don't talk to them. Protect your assets, NOW, lay low, don't apply for any credit. Don't let them get updated information on employment. Let the SOL run. The SOL for open accounts is 3 years in Alabama. If they sue (not likely) then you answer the lawsuit, and THEN YOU MAKE THEM PROVE IN COURT. What the money they say you owe is for How they calculated what you owe Provde the court with copies of any papers that show you agreed to pay what they say you owe Identify the original creditor Prove the state of limitations has not expired on this account. Shoe that they are licensed to collect in your state, provide proof that they are allowed to sue on this account. THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON THEM. IF you are sued, answer the summons immediately and show up in court to make them prove it all.
