Buying a House

I was in a financial bind about a year ago. I negotiated and settled with 2 creditors, while another, Bank of America, would not settle. The account was charged off and sent to collections.

Sherman took a $10k chargoff and inflated it to $14k. I asked for validation about 8 months ago and have not heard a peep since.

Since the charge off and settlements, I find my credit score to be 650. I make very good money now and would like to buy a house. I make enough to probably pay off the account at Sherman, but I do not think it is the right thing to do. I think that Sherman trying to charge me for something that I do not owe them is wrong.

Anyway, I live in Texas. Do any loan companies give mortgages to people like me? Like I said, I make really good money. My only outstanding debts are one car loan and this from Sherman. Any advice?

Thanks so much board.
T
