You can now get traveler's checks in the form of a debit card. I think it was an American Express Traveler's cheques commercial I saw. I btw, think it would be a good alternative to a checking account if you are trying to keep CAs away from your money. I have never had anyone refuse a traveler's check, even when they don't accept personal checks. For payments that you would rather send a check, a money order or cashier's check is great as well. Any bank will sell either of them to you and are accepted by everyone.
