Your settlment letter should be on the company letterhead, detailing the conditions of the agreement from the OC's Collection Department or Recovery Department. It should also have the signature of the department head. Make sure you save the settlement offer as well as a copy of the check you submit for payment......

You shouldn't expect the 1099C until after the first of the year....just in time for filing your income tax. You need to determine if you're solvent or not in order to avoid paying taxes on the forgiven debt.
