What to Do? Can I Restart Payments? Am I sunk?

Can some of you wise folks please advise me?
I have a $9,000+ card debt with Wachovia/Bank One. Because of medical and financial difficulties, I haven't made a payment in a year. My finances are a bit better now, and I'd like to start payments again.
Mann Bracken called to say that the matter will go to arbitration next month unless payment is made. I did not discuss it with them (I never get into it with these people on the phone) and they would not leave any other info for me. Is it possible to just go ahead and send a payment to Wachovia/Bank One with a note that regular payments are recommencing? Or am I sunk?
