My only regret is that I did not file bk sooner. Even though I ignored CAs (did not allow them to harass me) AND I knew that if I was sued that I could file bk. Can't say that I did a happy dance when the doorbell rang and I was served.
I was prepared to be served though, and I had my attorney on the phone within the hour. For me, it was a relief. I was served on a Friday about 5PM, my attorney called their attorney on Monday at about 2PM. That was pretty much it.

People are filing bk in record numbers these days. I read on a few credit forums, and from what I read, people are qualifying for FHA mortgages two years after bk. They are rebuilding their credit. Bk is a fresh start.

The circumstances you are describing are stressful. Guilt??? Why. CAs bought your account for pennies on the dollar, and they are trying to collect the full balance plus their own added interest.

This is what Why Chat said awhile back, and I liked it. Thought it hit the nail on the head.

"The CA buyer is like a 2nd hand dealer, he buys merchandise that has been written off by the original owner.
However, rahter than reselling his "used good" for a fair markup on his purchase, as a used furniture dealer, or even a used car dealer would, he uses nasty intimidating tactics to try to scare people into paying the FULL PRICE of "new" merchandise."

Wise lawmakers have provided us with laws that protect us from predetory collection practices. Bk law exists for good reason. It is your privlidge and right as an American to use the laws to protect yourself and your children.

I HAVE NO REGRETS.
