You should at least show up. If you fail to show, they will get a default judgement. Some states allow you to file your answer before you walk into court or will recess long enough for you to go to the circuit court clerk's office and file it then, I know Missouri allows this. You can call the court and ask them. When answering the complaint deny everything but that you are a resident of your county. If you can afford an attorney you could go into court and ask for a continuance to obtain counsel. The judge will usually give you 45 days for that. If they haven't validated the debt, you can use that as a defense along with SOL, if SOL applies. You don't have to just lay down and let the CA walk all over you. Even if you lose, you should make them work for it!
