House payment worries

We are having finanical troubles but don't want to lose our home. I have been four months behind on my payments and threatened foreclosure. I am now only one month behind and can't seem to get the whole payment together to get caught up. I don't know if anyone else has been in this situation or not. I need some advice. Do you think if I wrote them a letter and told them that I would send a payment each month and send $50 or $100 per week toward the one I am behind on until I get it caught up. I would be willing to pay whatever extra interest they charge. I need some thoughts on this. Thanks
