Ok...this is not my year.

Today in the mail I received a letter from the law offices of Weltman, Weinberg and Reis saying that they represent Palisades Collections, Inc. (this was from OC Providian, but Providian is not mentioned anywhere in their letter, my Providian account was a CO, and on my CR it shows date of last activity as 12/02).

The letter says that a lawsuit is being filed against me and that I owe 5100.00 to Palisades. That it is important for me to contact their office to discuss resolution to the matter.

The next paragraph says the law firm is a debt collector and unless I dispute the validity of the debt within 30 days it will be assumed to be valid. If I write them and tell them I dispute, they will obtain VERIFICATION of the debt and mail me a copy. If I write them within the 30 days and request it, they will send me the name and address of the original OC, if different from the current creditor, which I take they mean to be Palisades.

The last paragraph says that the law does not require them to wait until the end 30 day period to sue me, but if I dispute it does require them to suspend their collection efforts, through litigation or otherwise, until they mail the info to me.

Then attached to this is a "complaint" which says the name of my court, however, it is NOT from the court, it is something anyone can type up on a word processor. It is signed by the lawyer from Weltman.

Page 3-It is a form they titled Exhibit A. It has Palisades on top and all it shows is this:
Balance due xx/xx/xxxx Palisades Collections, LLC
Assignee of Providian and Palisades address, and the amount owed of $5100. With a space for me to write in how much I am paying (like I am sure!)

Anyway, do I send a DV and that is all for now? Any comments or suggestions as to these sheisters I would appreciate. I would imagine this is a scare tactic as it is not an actual court doc, but I want to know how to proceed.

Thanks again guys!
