All you can do is appear at the hearing and see if they have proof of their claim. You may be able to reach a Court ordered mediated settlement, which is a lot safer than making an arrangement with the lawyer beforehand.

Otherwise you will get a judgment against you. Depending on your State, and your circumstances, this can mean anything from bank account seizures to wage garnishment to attachments to your home and car-- OR--it may be completely unenforceable against you if you are in a State that does not allow wage garnishment, has homestead protection and/or you file your exemption with the Court for exempt $$ in your bank, exemptions on your home/car/etc.
