That's exactly how the majority of CA's work. They lie. When you agreed to make monthly payments you gave them the impression that you were concerned about your credit, i.e. meeting your financial obligations (which ALL of really strive for) but circumstance often prevent us from doing. You also admitted that the debt was your debt which may come back to haunt you IF they do sue and collect on the debt. It is NEVER a good idea to pay the low-life CA's. IGNORE them except in the case you receive a court summons. Do NOT talk to them on the phone. All they will do is threaten and harass you.

Who are the CA's? What state do you live in? Is the debt within the SOL for your state? Was your agreement verbal or in writing? IF you paid by personal check, protect your banking info.

Document each and every detail of the situation. It sounds as though they are bottom feeders who have absolutely no regard for the FDCPA.
