Charge off reported 3 years after payments made to collections

Back in 1998 I started a "Corporate" Credit Card for my then husband's business(first mistake) with the assumption that he would pay it(second mistake) and that I would be protected personally under corporate laws. When his business went under in 1999 he didn't pay and I refused to as I didn't feel they could hold me liable.
They sent the bill (13K) to a collection agency that convinced me it was my responsibility. I have been paying this agency on time each month since 2000. I checked my credit report yesterday and discovered that the original company to whom the debt was owed reported the debt as "charged off" in July of 2004, over 3 years after I have been paying faithfully. This does not seem fair. I have 8 negative remarks on my report, all "30 day lates" with this exception, and all during the 3 years my ex-husband had a business and reaked financial havoc on my life. I have had no financial flaws since the day I left him and regained control of my life, yet this makes it appear that I currently don't pay my bills. Is there anything I can do about this?
Also, I have a judgment against him for 4K(not nearly what he should be paying) and don't know how to get that money. Any advice?
I understand that this might seem like pennies to some of you, but there has been much more debt that I've been paying off by teaching both day school and night school(two full time jobs), and I'm just tired. Plus, I've been paying it all off to prevent this kind of scar on my report.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
