IF the bank account is in your parents' name and you are an authorized signor in the event that you had to pay their medical expenses, etc. you might want to consider have a durable power of attorney, including healthcare, drawn up UNTIL you file BK and your debts are discharged. Most attorneys will charge $50-$100 to draw up a POA. You may also find that some of the Senior Citizens groups can provide you with a POA at little or no charge. This would be for temporary use ONLY unless your parents would like for it to continue. ONCE the BK has been discharged, there is no reason why you can't go back onto the account. Your BK lawyer could advise you if drawing up a POA is necessary in the first place.
