unifund and settlement

I currently have a charged off account that was purchased by unifund. I currently live in florida is it usual for a credit card to seek litigation in a amount of $9600 in the state of florida? I offered to settle with the company but they said that they can only settle for 7600 and that's it and they wouldn't respect any counter offer. What options do I have?
