Hard inquiries show up on the report when sent to others, such as lenders and creditors, and usually are the result of a CA or new lender pulling your report.

So-called "soft" inquiries only show up on the report you order for yourself, and include inquiries from you pulling your own report. Supposedly soft inquiries do not affect your score as "hard" inquiries do.
