You can always ask for his badge number and the department he works for. You can say you will need it for your records in case it gets ugly. YOu might also want to ask him for permission to videotape him so that there is no discussion and question about him serving the papers. YOu can tell him that you are concerned that this might be a shakedown attempt and that you have encountered wierd and strange and malicious behavior so you need to collect all evidence you can. Also see if you can get his signature. Tell him you have called the courthouse and there is nothing there. If he is a real sherrif and it is on the up and up, he won't mind. If he isn't on the up and up, he won't be back.
