See if you can get a written statement from the hospital, OR ask them to return your undeposited check with an explanation. You should also file a complaint with your State's Attorney General, under unfair billing practices by a Health Care provider, and against the CA for violations of the FDCPA and State consumer practices laws. In your request ( written) to the hospital, state that you reserve your rights to file,a HIPAA complaint and unfair billing practices complaint against them,absent their immediate reply to your request for return of your check.
