I'm no pro on BK but it seems to me that your mortgage is a secured debt. When you file BK, you are filing to have ONLY your unsecured debt discharged. You have the option of re-affirming on debts in which there is secured collateral.

It would appear that your mortgage company wants to be in the real estate business which is very unusual. They normally try to work with the debtor so as not to have to foreclose.

You probably need to save the letter that accompanied your return check just in case you are allowed to continue with filing your BK. The trustee might want to see exactly what the mortgage company is trying to pull.
