Well, maybe I was just lucky. Other than calling my neighbors when I changed my phone#, I had no problems at all. I do have an unlisted phone # though. I don't give it out at all. Not even to the grocery store for the store card, you know the thing they scan, and it gives a discount on some items. They don't seem to be able to find my daughter. I have also have a nephew with a Discover card problem. Now, if they could find relatives easily, they would be calling me because he is always here. I do agree that they can find the debtor if they really want to, but I don't think they can locate everybody because it is very time consuming and expensive. Even IF they can get free info....I don't think they get much for free, they STILL HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO THE SEARCH, SO IT'S NOT FREE. I did searches on myself, just to see what I could find. Well, there are about 40 people with the same name as me. For 2.95 I got a little more info, but it was old, not updated.Keeping in my that I knew which one was me, and the CA wouldn't know that.( I know they get it cheaper ) So, it's a crap shoot. My daughter has absolutely nothing in her name. I'm her mother, they aren't calling me. I do keep my info private, and I rarely talked to CAs. If you read my post about getting a call from Toronto. Skp tracer (years ago now) caller ID showed Toronto, and she said she was UPS. ILLEGAL, and a dead giveaway. I gave her a made up address. Don't even know if that address existed or not, but it wasn't mine anyway.
I rarely talked to CAs. When I did, I was usually pretending to be my daughter, and I gave them trash info.

You know you could do that. When they call just tell them you are not home. I think you would find that you would get fewer calls if you did not talk to them.

As far as assets go, well, I don't think most have any. That goes back to the same old argument, that would pay their bills if they could. If they do have a little someting, and are trying to keep it, then I think just about anyone can figure out how to protect what little they might have.

Of couse, they did find me and get my address, I have to admit that. But, I owned a house outright, so they had good reason to think they had me. They didn't. Tenants by the entirety protected me, and I knew that it would. So, they went to a lot of trouble and expense for absolutely nothing.

I have said this before, it was a Canadian Owned CA, and I just don't think they realized that we had 50 states with 50 sets of laws that they had to deal with. They probably looked at Federal Exemptions. Just my 2 cents.
