Charged off credit card from 1995

I really need some good advice on 2 charged off credit cards from 1995. Long story short, I worked for a bank that charged off 2 cards after I left in 1995 because I couldnt pay. West Capital purchased the accounts and then sold them to Midland who keeps badgering me. They sent them to a local collection attorney who keeps calling at home and at work. They have sent me summons on 2 occassions. They called last night and I told them I wasnt going to pay because it was past the statute of limitations to collect from the original creditor but they told me I was wrong. I figure they will soon send another summons. Please advise!!!
