First, the ca is lying (What a suprise!).

Second, wage garnishment can only occur after you lose in court and a judgment is issued.

Third, the person on the phone has no power over you unless you give it to him/her. They are just trying to scare you into paying. They get paid based on how much they get you to pay. They don't care if your children starve or you can't get to work. They only care about money and will say anything to get it.

I am 99% sure that your payroll dept is not allowed to give out any informtion about you unless you authorize in writing (don't) or under a court order.

Take the advise of others and stop talking to them. Send them a letter (see WhyChats website) and tell them not to contact you at work. You have nothing to gain by talking to them so stop.

The person on the phone can not start a court case. They wouldn't want to anyway, because they get NO dollars if the lawyer takes over.

I seriously doubt anyone is going to sue over 848.00 although it could happen. Most likely they will just go away.

You may also be exempt from garnishment either under head of household or hardship.

Good luck and don't talk to anyone on the phone.
