It's not so much that the system is wrong, Cat. It's that I didn't know my rights. For most of my life, I didn't think I *needed* to know my rights. I was wrong, of course. And when I was already most vulnerable and at an all-time emotional low (newly divorced, alone in a strange new city, 500+ miles away from my only natural child, and hearing that my ex had quickly remarried), the financial portion of my life suddenly turns into a train-wreck. I floundered, sank, and went into a paralysis that lasted almost *FIVE LONG* years. But don't grieve for me, Cat! :-) Those days are ending rapidly for me, now. I am getting back on track, slowly but surely. Take heart for your own situation, because I've just managed to add 150+ points to two of my credit scores and am closer to debt-free than I've been in many years! Never thought I'd be thrilled to see my credit scores characterized as "fair" but I am. I can now say that most of what is on there is MINE, and soon all will be. I can live with that. But I tell my kids all the time when they whine that "Life isn't fair." It just isn't. I can see it in their eyes that they have NO CLUE what I'm talking about. I try...but I can only hope that they'll be one of the lucky.
