You will need to file an answer to the lawsuit. Any so called "debt repair" companies will promise you the moon to get your $$ but they are all scams. When was the last time you paid the original creditor on this account, yourself- directly, not through any scam debt repair company? If you are in Fl. your home is completely exempt, your car is exempt up to $1,000 equity based on wholesale value. Your wages are exempt from garnishment if you contribute more than 50% to your household income and you have at least one dependant. If you have an individual bank account, or a joint account with your name FIRST on the account, close it and reopen an account in another bank with someone else as primary on a joint account.
