Your settlement letter won't count against you. After all, who's to say it's yours, if you used regular mail? Do they have an affidavit stating this letter came from you? Nope. See, it gets tricky for them. Good for you.
Did you demand validation? If so, and you've not received any - from your posting - then their big, fat, tails are stuck in Grandma's ole wringer washer. FTC regs mandate CA's cease all collection activity, when validation requested, until they validate. No validation, no go to court, no calls, no nothing. Otherwise, more turns on the wringer.
As wise, fortitudinous Boadicea so counsels, say little, touch no one, place nothing in writing. By answering their malicious suit and showing up in court, they may well head for the nearest rest room.
Tips for court, from a certified paranoid: No watches, jewelry, expensive pens, etc. Look the part, don't take anything to court you want to lose. A pad, cheap stick pen, no money or other valuables, always good. Driver license for ID, that's it. Dress formally to show respect, humbly to achieve proper perception. Court is a stage. Why not steal the show?

Perceptively,

Keyser Soze
