I am self employed, have a default judgement against me on a cc debt, and last week had my checking account garnished (I barely had $50 in it). I work on contract for a company and only receive a check when I fill in a check request and turn in my time. If they garnish my pay, will they take the whole check? In MN, they're supposed to leave you 40X the minimum wage ($5.15) in disposable income each week. Also I pay my child support directly into the state, not to mention state, federal and SE taxes. I have not been requested to fill out any kind of income statement by the court or anyone else. I would like to know if I can expect to have my checks totally garnished. I guess I'll find out however when I see the bottom line on my check. Thank you.
